Crown Princess Indra Rajya Laxmi Devi Shah (25 July 1926 – 4 September 1950)

Remembering Crown Princess Mother Indra Rajya Laxmi Devi Shah was only 24 when she passed on due to post-partum hemorrhage, a complication following the birth of Prince Dhirendra, the sixth child. King Mahendra with Daya Bir Singh Kansakar established Prasuti Griha, the first maternity Hospital, “Paropakar Indra Rajya Lakshmi Devi Prasuti Griha” on 26 September 1959 in the loving memory of his first queen. She was born into an aristocratic Rana family, as the daughter of Honorary General Hari Shamsher Jung Bahadur Rana and Megha Kumari Rajya Lakshmi. She married King Mahendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev on 8 May 1940. She is a mother of six viz Princes Birendra, Gyanendra, Dhirendra, and Princesses Shanti, Shova, and Sharada.
