Meera Rana, the “Makhamali Choli Chahidaina” singer, has sung over 1,700 songs in her six-decade-long musical career. She is one of the most beloved folk singers of all time. She has also sung classical and pop songs, collaborating with musical gems like Narayan Gopal, Gopal Yonjan, Kumar Basnet, Ram Thapa and Udit Narayan Jha. 

She has lent her melodious voice to several leading ladies of Nepali Cinema. She has also contributed greatly to the Nepali Drama scene. She idolizes singer Tara Devi and says she is a singer because of Tara Devi. 

Meera Rana served as Chief Music Manager at Radio Nepal for 35 years. Later, she also joined politics as a member of Rastriya Prajatantra Party in 2009, and in 2013, she contested for parliament from Kathmandu-3 constituency. 

In recognition of Meera's distinguished contribution to Nepali music, she was felicitated with many awards in her lifetime, including Gorkha Dakchin Bahu (order of Knighthood in Nepal) and Chinnalata Geet Purashkar. She, along with another veteran singer, Gyanu Rana, was awarded the "Narayan Gopal Memorial" prize in the year 2016, on the occasion of the 26th Anniversary of Narayan Gopal Memorial. 

This veteran singer has won a Guinness World Record “The Most Vocal Solos” for recording the “Melancholy” song with 364 other singers. The song was recorded in a day on the 19th May 2016, at Radio Nepal, which was written, composed, and directed by Environmentalist Nipesh Dhaka. The two albums—Shri Ram Bhanera  (an anthology of the devotional songs) and Geet (an album of folk songs) are the latest releases of Mrs. Rana. She coincided the releases with her 64th birthday and 53rd anniversary of her evergreen song “Makhamali Choli Chahidaina”.
