Shey Phoksundo Lake, located in the Ringmo Village of the remote Dolpa district of Nepal, is a stunning alpine freshwater oligotrophic lake renowned for its crystal-clear turquoise waters. 

Nestled within Shey Phoksundo National Park, it spans an area of 494 ha and plunges to an impressive depth of 145 meters, making it one of the deepest lakes in Nepal. Shey Phoksundo is a vital source of freshwater downstream, with the highest waterfall (167m) in Nepal 500m from the lake.

The lake is surrounded by dramatic cliffs and snow-capped peaks, this sacred lake holds immense cultural and spiritual significance for the local Bon and Buddhist communities as the Ringmo Monastery sits above a cliff on the eastern side of the lake.

In September 2007, Phoksundo Lake has been designated a Ramsar site.
